Educational, Interactive, and Amazing!
There’s something for everyone at the Fair’s livestock area, which offers a unique opportunity to experience first-hand, the agricultural abundance of our area. There are lots to do, lots to see, and so many exhibitors. The Sonoma County Fair livestock shows are the annual showcase of the best of the best, with exhibitors from Eureka, Orland, Chico, Fresno, and other areas as well as hundreds of animals from the dairies and ranches for which Sonoma County is famous.
The Livestock Area all starts with some Barnyard fun. The home of Sweet Lil’s Farm is a special place for kids and adults to learn about life on the farm at the Sonoma County Fair. At Sweet Lil’s, you’ll find faux cow “milking”, baby chicks hatching and a host of other ag-tivites. Drive a tractor, venture into the hay maze, or visit the little pigs in their straw, wood and brick houses. Get in on the buzz with beekeepers and learn how important our pollinators are for farming.
The Fair’s Junior Livestock Auctions are the culmination of a year’s work for young aspiring ranchers and farmers who select, purchase, feed, and groom livestock to be judged, graded and sold at the Fair. As a learning and business venture for young men and women, the Sonoma County Fair Junior Livestock Auction is their market place. The judges at the Sonoma County Fair select only the best animals to sell at the Junior Livestock Auctions. The 2017 Auctions will be held on:
- August 5: Lamb 9:00 a.m. | Rabbit 1:00 p.m. | Goat 1:30 p.m.
- August 10: Hog 9:00 a.m. | Poultry 1:00 p.m.
- August 11: Ag Mechanics Auction 6:00 p.m. | Beef Auction 6:00 p.m.
For those who want to get even closer to the animals, the Great American Petting Zoo is open from 11:00 am to 8:00 pm daily during the Fair. The zoo contains a wide variety of animals including llamas, Fallow Deer, African Pygmy Goats, assorted exotic and domestic goats and sheep, Vietnamese Potbellied Pigs, Bantam Chickens, miniature Sicilian Donkeys, miniature Call Ducks, and baby animals born all year long.
